About Women of Color HERStory Month

Women of Color HERStory Month (WOCHM) is a city-wide celebration of the power, legacy and achievements of women of color held each year from February 15 - March 15 between Black History and Women's History Month. WOCHM is inspired by the rich culture, legacy and achievements of women of color in the Greater Pittsburgh Region across the country and around the world presented each year by New Voices Pittsburgh: Women of Color for Reproductive Justice.

Since 2008, WOCHM recognizes the exceptional social, economic, political, spiritual and cultural contributions of women of color, creates a forum for women of color to participate in activism, civic engagement and leadership development while also educating the region about Human Rights and Reproductive Justice for all people. WOCHM 2010 is the third year of this major event and it will be bigger and better than ever! WOCHM 2010 calls on women of color and allies from across the Greater Pittsburgh Region to design, host and promote the herstory of women of color – our mothers, friends, leaders, innovators and change makers who dreamed, inspired, achieved and believed in the greatness of us all.

Women of Color HERStory Month reaches several hundred women each year and we expect the 2010 celebration to be the largest yet with expanded signature events, increased community engagement and strategic financial sponsorship. We invite you to demonstrate your individual, company or organizational commitment to women by joining us in our celebration. Invest in making Pittsburgh a diverse, inclusive and compelling place for women of color to live, learn and lead for ourselves, our families and our communities.

New Voices Pittsburgh: Women of Color for Reproductive Justice

New Voices Pittsburgh is a groundbreaking organization, using a Reproductive Justice framework to organize and build a local movement with young women of color and allies in the Greater Pittsburgh Region.

Reproductive Justice is a community organizing framework based in Human Rights, a social change movement primarily led by women of color that affirms the rights of women to decide if/when they will have children and how they will raise their children and a vision for reproductive freedom for all people centralizing the healing practice of self-help.
